What We Do

ERT Search and Rescue is known globally for its All Hazards international disaster response work. ERTSAR also responds nationally to emergencies and disasters in own own communities.

Our team is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to be deployed to disasters and emergencies in our local communities and across the globe.

Internationally, the team can seamlessly integrate into military or LEMA (Local Emergency Management Agency) structures.
Nationally we also respond to anything from local capacity support, high-risk missing person searches, to severe flooding and civil contingency emergencies.

  1. Our Primary capacity and raison d'etre is Disaster Response
  2. Our Second capacity and purpose is Search and Rescue
  3. Our Tertiary capacity is Education and Capacity Building / CBDRR*
* Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction

When a disaster happens, ERT SAR usually deploys during the initial response phase during the need for 'surge capacity' but waits for a request for international assistance or bilateral request for their mission.  ERT SAR works closely with the Military, United Nations, WHO and NGOS.

Over the years, the team has directly helped thousands of people affected by disasters at home and abroad. Along with our technical rescue, USAR and water rescue specialties, ERTSAR has a very strong focus on emergency medical response and care, and this is always a large part of any deployment.

Notable Capacity

ERTSAR tends to focus on Medical and Rescue activities in the Hot Zone as well as support and stabilisation for preparedness, mitigation and recovery whenever possible.

Flood & Water

ERTSAR has a fully functional Marine Unit and responds to all water hazards and disasters. ERTSAR has a Surface water, Flood and Swiftwater, Ice and Snow Rescue team including boats and vehicles to support operations. ERT SAR trains to NFPA & DEFRA standards and is coordinated by DEFRA and the UN.

Medical

ERTSAR has a Disaster Medical SAR and Response Team and has deployed to many of the worlds disasters with Doctors, Nurses and Paramedics as a fixed and mobile Medical Team.
ERT SAR is compliant with the World Health Organisation (WHO) standards and pursuing Type 1 Mobile status.

The first part of any actual deployment is an initial process during which time the team concurrently will attempt to aid those who need it with Assessment and Coordination services. This can usually be started / done remotely but often continues locally.

Operational Service Summary

The graphic below is a representation of many of our services. We have many others that we will be showing in future illustrations such as the extensive Safety and Security Services, GSAR / Search capacity or Helicopter Operations.
